A Tourist Route Planning and Navigation System Based on LBS

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a tourist route planning and navigation system (called TRPNS) which helps tourist to arrange travel route and navigate tourist through the chosen travel route. We have designed and implemented the TRPNS based on Location Based Services (LBS). By the help of LBS, the portable device such as PDAs and mobile phones are aware of its location and can query the back-end system for the updated information about the local sites of interest in anytime and anywhere. In our TRPNS, a tourist can plan a specific day with a series of activities recommended according to his (or her) preferences; for example, find places for special dinner or shopping. Once the travel route is determined, and the desired arrival/stay time is established, the system will help user to navigate through the designated travel route efficiently.
