Message from the Symposium Chairs

The web has become a colossal repository for information and services, thus representing the ideal platform for form computational grids that support resource sharing and coordinated problem solving across heterogeneous and geographically dispersed systems.  In order to realize this grand vision, the computation resources, information, and services available on the web has to be described, i.e., semantically annotated in a machine-understandable format that allows the automated discovery and composition of these components.

The 2009 International Symposium on Web Information Systems and Applications(WISA 2009) as part of the 2009 International Symposium on Electronic Commerce Security (ISECS 2009).WISA 2009 is sponsored by Nanchang HangKong University,China,Peoples'Friendship University of Russia,Russia,Nanchang University, China,Jiangxi Normal University,China,Wuhan University, China, National Chung Hsing University,Taiwan,Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sichuan University,China,Jiaxing University, China. It is also Technical Co-Sponsor IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and IEEE Computer Society Technical Council on E-Commerce. Much work went into preparing a program of high quality. The conference received 287 paper submissions from 19 countries and regions, of which 136 were selected for presentation after a rigorous review process. From these 136 research papers, through two rounds of reviewing, the guest editors selected six as the best papers will be published by the Journal of Computers.

The goal of WISA 2009 is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to exchange their research ideas and results, and to discuss the state of the art in the areas of the Security for electronic commerce. Participants of the Symposium will hear from renowned keynote speakers including: Academician, China Academy of Engineering Prof. Guangnan Ni, Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, IEEE & IET Fellow Prof. Chin-Chen Chang from National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, IEEE Fellow Prof. Jen-Yao Chung, Senior Manager, Industry Technology and Solutions, IBM, USA, IEEE Fellow Prof. Ben M. Chen from National University of Singapore, Singapore, and Chair of IEEE Shandong Section Prof. Dongfen Yuan at Shandong University, China.

We are particularly grateful to Chin-Chen Chang, Jen-Yao Chung, Ben M. Chen, Guangnan Ni, and Dongfen Yuan for accepting our invitation to deliver invited talks at this year’s conference. We wish to thank the Nanchang HangKong University, China for providing the venue to host the conference. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Faculty of Computing, Nanchang HangKong University, China, who has worked throughout the year in preparation for this conference. We wish to express our deepest thanks to the members of the Program Committee, who gave their personal free time to perform the often thankless job of reviewing many papers under extremely short deadlines, and to the volunteers and local assistants who made this program a success.

We wish each of you successful deliberations, stimulating discussions, building new friendships and most important of all enjoy your visit to Nanchang, China. We are looking forward to seeing all of you next year at the WISA 2010.
