Special Issue on Multimedia over Wireless Multihop Networks [PDF]

Mobile multimedia applications such as online gaming, video conferencing, video streaming, mobile TV,
and peer-to-peer streaming, can be supported by wireless multihop networks. In spite of the increasing
demand for mobile multimedia services, we are still lacking a clear understanding of analytical and
computational techniques, as well as best practices, to design resource allocation schemes,
communication protocols, and self-organization algorithms for wireless multihop networks. In particular,
dynamic spectrum access and cognitive radios, ultra-wide-band and cooperative communications,
among other techniques, will have a profound impact on our ability to flexibly and predictably deliver
multimedia content over wireless multihop networks. Despite recent advances, there are a number of
important challenges that arise when time-constrained multimedia streams are transmitted in wireless
multihop networks.

The objective of this special issue is
to bring together state-of-the-art research contributions that address
these key aspects of multimedia content delivery over wireless multihop networks
. Original papers
describing completed and unpublished work not currently under review by any other
journal/magazine/conference are solicited. Specific topics include, but not limited to, the following:

    •        Architectures and applications for wireless multihop multimedia networks
    •        Protocols design for real-time, reliable multimedia streaming
    •        Quality-aware cross-layer design
    •        Quality-aware resource Management and admission control
    •        QoS provisioning for multimedia over wireless multihop networks
    •        Scalability, mobility and secure issues
