Design of MEMS Based Attitude Determination and Control System for Nanosatellite

Abstract

One of the latest manifestations of miniaturization in space applications is the development of standardized nanosatellite. Recent achievements and future trends of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology have indicated that micro-technology is the critical technologies of future space programs. Enabling technologies for demanding applications will surely make use of MEMS based components. In this paper the design & implementation of integrated micro-gyros, micro magnetometer and Active Pixel (AP) based sun sensor has been discussed for the Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS). The range of potential applications of MEMS based ADCS will include areas such as earth observation, space science and astronomy and on-orbit verification of new technologies using nanosatellite.
