Full text:  PDF

Near-end Speech Detector (NSD) plays important role in maintaining convergence state of an Adaptive Filter (ADF) as well as turning ON/OFF of Non-Linear Processor (NLP) or Acoustic Echo Suppressor (AES) at proper time to avoid near-end signal chopping or distortion. In this paper, several simple and low complexity NSDs, based on projection between ADF input/output signals are presented. Mathematical investigation on setting of optimal threshold is done under the assumption of convergence state of the ADF. The real time problems associated with this projection based NSDs are analyzed theoretically as well as from their performance for real time recorded signals. Solutions to these problems are suggested to meet today’s quality requirement.
