A Novel Design of Service Oriented and Message Driven Middleware for Ambient Aware Wireless Sensor Network

Sensor networks have attracted various application domains for which the conventional networks are unsuitable in terms of viability and cost-effectiveness. The emerging field of networked sensors offers great opportunities and advantages for such applications in view of low-cost, low energy and easy deployability. However, in view of limited power, processing and communicational capabilities of sensor nodes, the sensor network architecture design requires special considerations. One of the important considerations is to keep processing overhead minimum at lower layers. Being inspired by the advantages offered by middleware in different systems, researchers have explored possibilities of incorporating them in WSN systems too. In this paper a novel middleware design for ambient aware sensor networks has been proposed. The proposed design adopts good features of available middleware, uses the state of the art technologies in computation and uses the recent advancements in service oriented architecture to take care of the processing load to deal with the real time demand of query processing, warning systems, seamless integration and execution of process logic. The design also incorporates the novel concept of data filter mechanism for filtering events of interest and concept of a messaging infrastructure for forwarding decision making and query processing messages to SOA.
